Low cost Electric car charger

With the rise of popularity of electrical vehicles, rose the need for low cost, easy to use charging stations. In this project the aim is to design a low cost charging station suitable for electric vehicles that support the standard SAE J1772 charging protocol.

The purpose of this project is to build an affordable charging station that can be used in public parking, personal parking spaces and workplace parking lots. This can help exploit the time in which cars are parked through working hours, and encourage people start using electrical vehicles instead of fossil fuel cars by making chargers accessible for everyone. The fact that most production electric cars follow the same charging protocol (the SAE J1772 standard) makes it easy to implement a universal solution while taking advantage of the simplicity and the low cost of IoT programming.

The station should function in a manner that When a car approaches the charging station, it starts collecting data to send to the cloud server. The user then is identified and can start and halt the charging automatically. The charging status is displayed on the station screen. The amount of current consumed is measured by the station, and the user is charged accordingly.
