Design a system that generate an electrical pulse of 800[psec] width or less with a total cost of tens of dollars.
Pulse is generated by adding a step function to another negative skewed one.
To get a short pulse, sharp step functions are needed. sharp step generator is expensive, so it was replaced with cheap step generator and a signal sharpener to lower costs. The signal sharpener was adapted from previous project.
The skew is created by making the trace length of one of the sharpener outputs longer than the other.
There are two options for the pulse width: option 1 – 200 psec pulse and option 2 – 400 psec pulse.
The results that were achieved is 418 psec width pulse with a peak voltage of 248 mV and a rise time of 85 psec.
