IOT door security module

A modular smart home system component that sends notifications when a door is opened and wirelessly transmits battery status.

When installing smart home systems, they are often monolithic and non-modular.
This means that adding new features is challenging and costly, as it typically requires integrating an entirely separate system.
The goal of this project is to develop a component of a modular smart home system that overcomes these limitations.
As part of the project, we developed a system that sends a notification when the door is opened. When necessary, it wakes up, and wirelessly sends the battery information to the user.
To achieve this, we designed and produced a PCB circuit (Electrical scheme was preformed using OrCad),
by analyzing and selecting suitable components that met the project’s requirements, which included low energy consumption, minimal size, and cost.
The device incorporates a limit switch for door opening detection, battery and the PCB.
The power supply is 4000mAh rechargeable batteries, there is an option to power the device by using the existing DC-DC converter.
A signal is transmitted only when door opened detected.
Idle current is ~0.045mA and working current is about ~14.2mA.
Final dimensions are 3cm X 5cm for the PCB, the device itself is 4 cm x 8 cm.
